June 1, 2019 – Resource Fair, Cuesta College Hover your cursor over each picture for specific information This is the winning Resource Fair team led by Sandy Murry, our major league “home run hitter” Veterans also found unexpected help Veterans found expected help It is interesting that many Vets came looking for and found “camaraderie” In analyzing the number of tables visited, it became apparent that many Vets came looking for specific services. It was surprising to see the number of requests to receive information by postal mailings, however we have to remember that older veterans do not necessarily use email. In many ways, Kari Ugolini personifies this Resource Fair. He’s a Purple Heart Vietnam Vet, on 100% disability and collecting Social Security. He lives in North County. He uses the VA Clinic and Medicare. He’s been a Vets Court Mentor since 2013. He would do anything for any Vet and asks little of his neighbors. We need to be there for Kari for whatever resources he needs. Whatever the numbers are, they would be less without our partnership and the VA Clinic Open House. Thanks to Charles Green and Calvin Payne, we were supported by postcards and robocalls and well informed from their workshop on the Mission Act. This is our banner over Marsh Street. We will try to get this space again next year and add a banner to Higuera if they will allow. And a good time was had by all. There we a considerable number of families including children, however we did not registered these non-veterans. Interior spaces were reduced from the previous year, but adaquate for our needs. To continue to grow, we will have to make some logistical changes. Cuesta College provided substantial space for outdoor booths and vehicles. This is the main entrance to the Fair. Unfortunately there are other parking lots and entrances, so not everyone got registered.
