Deb Humphreys

Deb Humphreys, Board Member, Executive Coach, Organization Development Specialist

Debora Humphreys, is an Executive Coach and Organization Development Specialist with Waypoint Coaching and Consulting. Now retired, she was formerly employed as Sr. OD Specialist, Executive Coach with The Aerospace Corporation, El Segundo, CA. Deb has over 25 years of experience serving and coaching leaders, teams, and organizations. Deb earned her Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University where her dissertation focused on change leadership and those competencies that distinguish successful from average change leaders.

Deb, mother of a former, but always, Marine now serving with the State Department in Europe, is committed to serve returning veterans through readjustment coaching. Her goal is to support returning veterans in making good decisions that reflect their transferrable military background and current interests, work values, and lifestyle considerations. She volunteers her veteran career coaching in coordination with veterans’ services at America’s Job Center. She is also a Board member of the San Luis Obispo Veterans Collaborative. A constant thread in Deb’s career, and what brings her most joy, is to think and plan systemically as well as to link community resources.

Recent Organization Development and Planning initiatives include leadership developing, strategic planning, trust building, and civil discourse programming and coaching. She has offered the Veterans Collaborative interactive needs assessment workshops. Deb has most recently completed certification in programming and coaching in building and rebuilding trust.

Along with her Ph.D., she has a M.Ed. in higher education counseling and a three-year post-graduate certification in “group process” from the Gestalt Institute, Cleveland, Ohio. She is a Certified Coach credentialed by the International Coaching Federation (ICF). Deb believes that individuals and organizations have the creative capacity to reach their full potential. Her role as coach and OD consultant is to facilitate that process through inquiry, discovery, planning, and personal commitment for accountability. Her approach extends beyond skill development to facilitating shifts in beliefs and mindsets to better mobilize others to meet complex challenges. Because of her large- system perspective, she views the consulting relationship within the larger context of organizational, personal, and extended community life.

Locally, Deb has been a docent for the Port San Luis Lighthouse and Pecho Coast Trail. She is 2nd VP of our League of Women Voters, SLO Co where she offers consulting and workshops related to civil discourse. Her walking, yoga, and tai chi keep her grounded and energized to keep active. She lives in Avila Beach with husband, Dave. (Contact Info: 424-201-9756/deb@waypointcoach.com)
